Carnitas ( Shredded Pork)

Going to chipotle and having their carnitas. Its outstanding! This is my take on carnitas. I made a batch of this ahead of time for camping one year and froze it. Then to reheat it we thawed it and cooked it on a grill in a foil pan till heated. It’s one of my favorite fillings to tacos and burritos.

Slow Cooker Carnitas


1-3 pound boneless or bone-in pork shoulder
3 garlic cloves, crushed
2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
¾ cup OJ
2 tablespoons lime juice
1- 4oz can green chilies
1 corona or 12 oz chicken broth


  • Mix spices together and rub all over pork
  • Place pork into slow cooker
  • Add OJ and Corona
  • Cook on low 8-10 hours
  • Save 1/2-1/4 cup of liquid
  • Remove pork, shred and place back in slow cooker with 1/4-1/2 liquid

Serving suggestions:

Serve with favorite toppings or inside a tortilla.
